Music in Church

Music plays an active and integral part of the worship and life of our churches. We are very lucky to have exceptionally talented and experienced professional musicians who direct and guide the strong musical tradition and activities at both churches; from organising regular recitals and concerts, to leading our choirs, and even sharing their expertise at our children's holiday clubs.

St Katharine's and St Margaret's offer Youth and Adult Choirs which are open for all members of the parishes to become involved in. Given the importance we place on music, these choirs help to maintain traditional Anglican worship for congregations which have come to appreciate well-chosen and well-sung music. Having said this, across our wide variety of services on offer there is music to suit everybody - from ancient psalm settings to more contemporary hymns.

Affiliation to the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) is common between our churches, as is the good working relationship which lends itself on occasion to both sets of choirs uniting to form an impressive group for particularly celebratory events, such as Confirmation Services. In short, musical growth and development is never far from our minds.

We would encourage anybody interested to read on to the pages in this section, and to follow through by speaking to the relevant people involved with the churches. If you are browsing regarding music for baptisms, weddings or funerals, begin your search in the main section elsewhere on the site, where amongst other things, you will find helpful guides for choosing hymns compiled by our resident experts.
