Book Review by John Benson

"The Shack" by William P Young (Hodder) £7.99 ISBN: 978-0-340-97949-5
This unusual book has been a bestseller in the US, winning the top prize in the New York Times Bestseller list. It is a compelling thriller, involving the awful murder of a child. The heart-broken father, Mack, is devastated and wrestles with his questions about a God who is supposed to be loving, and yet we live in a world of unspeakable pain. Mack meets with God in a most unexpected way. The story is inspirational, funny, deeply moving and at moments, rather sentimental. I found it a most poignant and encouraging view of God and His relationship with mankind. The critics compare "The Shack" to Bunyan's "Pilgrim's Progress" for our times. Perhaps? But it is certainly well worth reading.
